Low – point of Disgust – Opening track
I begin many write-ups with the line (so and so) are one of my favourite of all time and Low are yet another one of those bands. I figure after episode ten I will write a list of my favourite bands who have yet to feature in Skins for one reason or another. Anyway, Low along with bands like Galaxie 500 are one of the key Slowcore acts of all time and we use this track, which is taken from their “Drums and Guns” album, as a general template throughout the show.
Grizzly Bear – Little Brother – Sid sat outside Effy’s house
I’ve been told that Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear fame is actually a fan of the show. We’re keeping him happy by having his third ever track in Skins. Once again this is taken from his Warp album Yellow House.
Chemical Brothers – Das Speigel – Effy and Pandora getting ready
Effy’s got this weird Goth thing going on that I’ve never been able to work out. I figure that here she’s trying out some new music and has stolen a Chemical Brothers album from her Dad’s collection to work as a transition before she starts listening to real dance music.
Fat Segal – ofin4 – Sid zoning out with Effy talking in his head
A nice little piece of electronic noise from Fat Segal. We played him the amazing Tetsu Inoue for his inspiration for this track.
Dexplicit – bullacake – Playing in Cassie’s flat
Cassie is cool. She’s probably listening to Rinse FM or something. Most people will know Dexplicit as the person who produced Grime’s biggest track; Lethal B’s ‘Pow’.

More of the wonderful Dexplicit. All of this Bassline stuff is gonna be BIG this summer. Atlantic Records are basically falling over themselves to get another tune as big as T2’s ‘Heartbroken’ so look out for it in the next few months. On another note I’ve tried to get some Funky in the show but to no avail so far.

Autolux – Asleep at the Trigger
Autolux are a LA based Indie Shoegaze band who wrote a pretty amazing album a few years ago called ‘Future Perfect’. You should definitely check it out.

TS7 – Manipulation – Walking to the club
You may see this episode as a journey for Effy to get her art coursework done. It is actually a musical journey for Effy as in her head she’s listening to the amazing TS7 as she’s on her way to the club. She’s certainly come a long way since the start of the show. Who knows by the end of the series she’ll probably be discussing the issues surrounding the difficulty in obtaining Baile Funk recordings on import or something, i certainly hope so.
Pendulum – Tarantula – Club scene track 1
Pendulum have this weird pop approach to Ragga Jungle. I actually thought it was an old Jungle track when Dan ‘The Butcher’ Gethic played it to me. This takes us through Pandora’s imitation of the way Toby dances and Sid’s attempts to do all the art stuff.
Jeff Mills – The Bells – Club track 2
This is one of my all time favourite Techno tracks. Jeff Mills helped create the awesome Underground Resistance collective as well as being a pioneer of ‘minimal’ Techno with the likes of Robert Hood on his Axis label.
Broadcast – After the club with Jake being a knob…
I said in last week’s write up that more of the wonderful Broadcast would follow and once again here they are. This is taken from their Haha Sound album on Warp and i’ve heard rumours that they’re going to be releasing a new album this year, which of course i’m very excited about.
Queen – Escape from the Swamp – Sid worries.
This is without a doubt the best use of music in Skins ever and I’ll openly admit that it was all done by Dan ‘The Butcher’ Gethic. Also I think it’s unprecendented that we’ve used some ‘Dad Rock’ that is not the subject of a joke. The track’s taken from the Buck Rogers soundtrack.
Animal Collective – Fickle Cycle – Sid running to Cassie
I think I wrote in an earlier article that Animal Collective are one of the best bands of the decade and with yet another track in the show you can see why. This was a B Side to their excellent single ‘Grass’ which was one of their last releases on the amazing Fat Cat label. Soon they’ll be releasing an EP called Water Curses and its second track ‘Street Flash’ contains the most haunting scream i’ve heard since ‘Good morning Captain’ which is the closing track on Slint’s masterpiece ‘Spiderland.’
